Indian team dismal 7th in Champions Challenge I. India could only beat one opponent in the tournament Azerbaijan while drew their other game against Spain. Indian team lost its opening game against Ireland (2-1), played draw in the second game against Spain (1-1) and beat Azerbaijan (6-1) to finish 2nd in the pool. India faced Japan in the OF but lost to them 1-0. Indian team then faced South Africa for (5-8th classification) but they lost again with margin of 2 goals (2-0). In the last game India beat Azerbaijan 3-1 to finish 7th in the tournament.
2. New coach for Indian team to be decided in a day or two
New coach for Indian men’s team will be decided in a day or two. Holland’s Roelant Oltmans and Australia’s Michael Nobbs are the front-runners for the job. The term of new coach will be till the year 2016 Olympics.
3. Baljit Singh asked to join national camp
Indian goal-keeper Baljit Singh who suffered a career threatening eye injury is making a comeback after two years. Baljit who hurt his right eye while practicing reflexes with golf-balls has been called back to the national camp which will start from July 1.
4. Merger hits roadblock
Much awaited merger between IHF and HI hit a roadblock when KPS Gill led IHF rejected the merger proposal. KPS Gill said that they will not merge with corrupt people of Hockey India. IHF also wanted Hockey India to merge with IHF instead of other way around.
5. Haryana wins nationals
Haryana beat Karnataka in the final game to become the champions. Haryana beat Karnataka 2-1 with goals from Sandeep Singh and Mandip Antil. Punjab finish 3rd after beating Jharkhand 4-1.
