Bharat Chetri to captain Indian team for London Olympics |
Indian hockey team for London Olympics has been announced. Bharat Chetri will captain the Indian side for the Olympics with Sardar Singh as his deputy. Playing safe Indian team management has gone with two goalkeepers.
Indian defense will be handled by veteran Ignace Tirkey and will be joined by penalty corner experts Sandeep Singh and VR Raghunath.
Sardara Singh and Gurbaj Singh will lead Indian midfield and will be supported by young guns Birendra Lakra and Manpreet Singh.
Indian strike force is well experienced with the likes of Shivendra Singh, Tushar Khandekar and SV Sunil leading the Indian attack. Gurwinder Singh Chandi makes his comeback in the team after missing out Sultan Azlan Shah Cup due to hamstring injury. The biggest surprise of the team is the selection of Dharamvir Singh instead of Yuvraj Walmiki. Dharamvir Singh has not impressed so far and the goal poaching abilities of Yuvraj Walmiki would have been more useful.
Kothjit Singh (midfielder) and Sarvanjit Singh (forward) will be the the standby’s for the tournament
Following is the Indian team for London Olympics
Defenders: VRRaghunath, Ignace Tirkey, Sandeep Singh
Midfielders: Sardar Singh (V-C), Gurbaj Singh, Birendra Lakra, Manpreet Singh
Forwards: SV Sunil, Gurwinder Singh Chandi, Shivendra Singh, Danish Mujtaba, Tushar Khandker, Dharamvir Singh, SK Uthappa
