Hockey India selectors BP Govinda, Savitri Purty, coach Neil Hawgood along with scientific advisor Matt Tredrea and government observer Harbinder Singh selected eighteen player team for upcoming Junior Women World Cup in Germany from July 27. Defender Sushila Chani will lead the Indian team for the World Cup and ace striker Rani Rampal has been named as the vice-captain of the team.
Indian team for the World Cup has fair share of
experience in the side with the likes of Rani Rampal, Poonam Rani among others in the side. Indian team is currently attending training camp for the tournament in NIS academy at Patiala. India has already played five match series against Scotland where they won four games and lost one game.
Indian team will leave for Germany on July 15 and will play against Australia in the first game on July 27. Before the tournament commences, Indian team will play practice games against Belgium (July 17), Netherlands (July 19) and South Africa (July 21 and July 24)
Indian team has been placed in Pool C of the tournament along with Australia, New Zealand and Russia.Along with 18 players, Hockey India has also announced nine standbys in case of injuries
