Seven teams to participate in the tournament this time |
Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which will host its 25thedition this year will feature 7 teams this year instead of usual 6. The tournament organizers were hoping to celebrate the silver jubilee edition featuring 8 teams but the Olympics preparations of top teams like Germany and Netherlands forced the organizers to have this edition a 7 team affair.
The 2016 edition of the tournament will have the likes of Japan, India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and hosts Malaysia participating.
The tournament will also help the teams participating the the Olympics to work on their strengths and weaknesses along with finding out the best team composition. Out of the teams participating only India, Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be participating in the Olympics. Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016 will begin on 6th April with Japan taking on India while the finals of the tournament will be played on 16th April among the top two teams of the round robin format.
Once again all eyes will be on the encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan who will face each other on April 12 in the second match of the day.
Australia has been the most successful team of the tournament winning the title 8 times and are followed by India who have won the title 5 times.
